PART 1: Kakashi and Ryouma

(Link)

Hello everyone! Leia here again. Gosh, I'm so happy you guys remembered me! :') Also Nezu, congrats on your play - that is beyond cool! Also, so many new threads up, so I'm going to kind of go over everything in one sitting. I also can't post the entirety of my comment in one go, so it's split with Kakashi and Ryouma in one comment, and Katsu, Genma and Raidou in the other!

On Kakashi:
Gosh. Gosh. I just - I want to just bundle him up and squeeze him, (which, okay, I admit, I want to do that all the time) but this! Kakashi-chan, trying so hard to be brave and dignified and so, so sweet and intelligent. It makes my heart ache to just read him and Sakumo, and think that it would be gone, so soon. I really liked seeing this glimpse of a very shinobi-esque childhood in 'Don't Fear the Dark'. In Sakumo and Sadayo you can see Kakashi, and that sort of writing just makes me go kind of gooey.

I've always felt that Kakashi deserved so much more than the hand he was given. And to see him again, new, proud, famous and quite rude in the ANBU trials just sends this rush of pleasure and anticipation.

On Ryouma:
I can't even - Ryouma is just... gorgeous. He might feel the most familiar to me because of how his personality is written feels less different from FL Ryouma, for now.

Cocksure and Punching Kakashi is the Best Thing Ever.Though, this might be my adolescent crush talking. Considering that Kakashi/Ryouma is sort of my OTP, I don't think I contained my squeal when I realised that they were going into meet. Together. In the same thread. Urk. While I am aware that this is a different world from FL and they might not rejoin as lovers, I still am quite excited to read their interactions, romantic or otherwise!

It's also pretty interesting to see him before he's got all his jutsu perfected - its as if he's not as proud of them as he should be. Him talking jutsu to Kakashi was kind of sweet - considering the sort of genius it took for him to create his rot jutsu from scratch, its sorta nice to see it being discussed from one ninjutsu expert to another. It occurs, when reading about the trials, that he really is talented.

He's a bit of a mouthy bastard; I love it. Reading him saved by Kakashi and the rest of the ANBU was like a strange sort of deja vu. It's familiar but so different - and it being in-village and a direct threat of a breach in ANBU is chilling; in FL Konoha always meant safety and home, and to have that put in danger really came across quite starkly to me.

Get Well Soon, Ryouma and Kakashi!

PART 2: Genma, Raidou, Katsuko

(Link)

On Genma and Raidou:

Their first meeting is pretty different! But they still hit off so well, so easily, and I think it comes across as so because they've been written together for so long now, they fit so comfortably around each other. I love that the shinobi have stereotypes based on their specialty - it makes a fair bit of sense but its kind of amusing and lends to the feeling of the world/society feeling real. I kept grinning the whole way through 'Field of Daggers', because my brain kept going 'This is it this is it, they've met and they're going to be awesome and they're feeling each other out and finding that they fit like a good captain and lieutenant BUT OH MANNN ITS GENMA AND RAIDOU AND HENCEFORTH GREATNESS WILL COME'

Raidou seems like such a solid captain to have, and Genma being a capable medic is awesome I always liked his mother-hen tendencies, and how he's one of the more elegant men around. In the sense that he's still quite, you know, manly, but he's a classy one. The bit where he politely suggested that Kakashi be given hashirido at the hospital made me appreciative of his courtesy and etiquette. It sort of smooths over ruffled feathers, and he seems exceedingly competent. It also serves as a nice contrast to Raidou (even their diet choices at the canteen!). They play off each others energy, and the writing is always smooth and comfortable (much like their interactions with each other) and a joy to read.

On Katsuko:
In Gone to Ground, the shifts from mission-urgency to the Katsuko We Know and Love is fun. She's totally capable of being all serious shinobi (as they all are!), and that really plays nicely with when she gets more goofy and just Katsuko-ey. Also, with her huge chakra and how her moods are almost plainly visible to the other shinobi, it sorta just fits in with her character. I like that Genma thought her unstable upon meeting her. She's strong and fierce and bloody dangerous - and somehow when another character sees that, that recognition that you agree with is always cool to read.

She and Raidou are a nice match, I think! She's so small and energetic and a bit of a brat when she's cheerful, and it fits really nice with Raidou's onii-chan vibe. And he takes care of her when she's decidedly not okay, and I don't know but it's awfully comforting to read. Bits of her past and torture sort of show through the writing, floating out of sight but ever present, always giving you a context and contrast to her cheerful disposition. Always reminding you that she's dangerous, she's holding something dark in her. And I really like that she has Raidou to rely on, 'cause she totally deserves it.

---

You know how it is when you read a book or watch a movie for the first time and then after that you're sort of disappointed because the joy of discovering them and watching your favourite events unfold for the first time will never again be available to you? Well, legacy has kind of solved that. Here, in all their glory, are the coolest ninja ever, meeting again, fighting again, bonding again.

Looking forward to more of Legacy, and lots of love,
Leia. <3

OH MAN I'm so sorry I took so long to reply to this wonderful review. Every time I meant to go write a response, I'd just end up reading the post again and twirling around in glee.

She's totally capable of being all serious shinobi (as they all are!), and that really plays nicely with when she gets more goofy and just Katsuko-ey. <= Thank you! This time around, I'm making Katsuko less prone to silliness. She'll always be a little ridiculous, though.

She's strong and fierce and bloody dangerous - and somehow when another character sees that, that recognition that you agree with is always cool to read. <= I ACTUALLY HAVE NOTHING COHERENT TO SAY TO THIS I'M JUST OVER HERE MAKING HIGH-PITCHED NOISES OF JOY

She's so small and energetic and a bit of a brat when she's cheerful, and it fits really nice with Raidou's onii-chan vibe. And he takes care of her when she's decidedly not okay, and I don't know but it's awfully comforting to read. <= 'Small and energetic and a bit of a brat when she's cheerful' are all so extremely accurate I can't do anything but laugh. As for the sibling-like relationship between her and Raidou-- Katsuko in Leaves was shoehorned in a bit towards the end, so she was always a bit of an outsider. Her friendship with Raidou in Legacy gives her a connection that she sorely needs, and he also acts as a stabilizing influence as well as the older brother she never wanted.

Bits of her past and torture sort of show through the writing, floating out of sight but ever present, always giving you a context and contrast to her cheerful disposition. Always reminding you that she's dangerous, she's holding something dark in her. <= I'm really happy to see that this works! Katsuko as a character is excellent at masking emotions when she doesn't want to deal with them, but I'm doing my best to show the cracks in her composure.

Thank you so much for this review. I'm still beaming as I reread it for the umpteenth time.

<3,
GM

Hah! You might be right. Nezu and I have been writing these guys for almost six years, and Nezu's been writing Genma for way longer. I am DELIGHT that you're enjoying them. They're always fun to write. :D

I love that the shinobi have stereotypes based on their specialty - it makes a fair bit of sense but its kind of amusing and lends to the feeling of the world/society feeling real.

Oh GOOD. Some of my favorite things to see are people's weird little superstitions and stereotypes coming into play. We're likely to see more of them come up as Legacy progresses.

I kept grinning the whole way through 'Field of Daggers', because my brain kept going 'This is it this is it, they've met and they're going to be awesome and they're feeling each other out and finding that they fit like a good captain and lieutenant BUT OH MANNN ITS GENMA AND RAIDOU AND HENCEFORTH GREATNESS WILL COME

*LAUGHS!* Awwwwwww. <3 I hope they live up to that. >.>

Raidou seems like such a solid captain to have,

That is my hope! Though he is brand shiny new at this, so there should be some interesting teething troubles coming up, particularly with the crew he's going to inherit.

Genma being a capable medic is awesome I always liked his mother-hen tendencies, and how he's one of the more elegant men around. In the sense that he's still quite, you know, manly, but he's a classy one. The bit where he politely suggested that Kakashi be given hashirido at the hospital made me appreciative of his courtesy and etiquette. It sort of smooths over ruffled feathers, and he seems exceedingly competent.

This is a really lovely analysis, and I think you are spot-on accurate. There should be at least ONE guy with a concept of tact and manners in the middle of this rabble.

It also serves as a nice contrast to Raidou (even their diet choices at the canteen!)

Yesssss. That's partially why I really like the captain/lieutenant concept in this version of ANBU. It's a much better system of checks and balances.

She and Raidou are a nice match, I think! She's so small and energetic and a bit of a brat when she's cheerful, and it fits really nice with Raidou's onii-chan vibe. And he takes care of her when she's decidedly not okay, and I don't know but it's awfully comforting to read.

Hurt/comfort, man. It is the emotional balm of writing. And there will be LOTS more of it, you can be sure.

Also, YES. I really enjoy the whacky broship of Katsuko and Raidou. They're an entirely different balance, and very, very fun to write. I'm so glad you enjoy them. :D

*J'ADORE*

This is one of the nicest things anyone has ever said about us. I really hope you continue to be delighted with Legacy. Thank you so, so much for sharing your thoughts. <3

Re: PART 1: Kakashi and Ryouma

Of course we remember you! We remember all the fabulous people. <3

Gosh. Gosh. I just - I want to just bundle him up and squeeze him, (which, okay, I admit, I want to do that all the time) but this!

*LAUGHS!* He might object, but I do not.

*ROLLS AROUND IN DELIGHT* YES. That is exactly what I was going for, and I'm so pleased it landed. I've never written Kakashi that young before, and it was a interesting exercise to try and balance a child mindframe in a shinobi world that doesn't really allow for it.

Sakumo and Sadayo do painful things to my heart. >.>

I've always felt that Kakashi deserved so much more than the hand he was given.

I'm very biased, but I have always thought so, too. Of course, half the delight of his character is that basically NOTHING goes right for him, but he keeps on trying. And trying.

And to see him again, new, proud, famous and quite rude in the ANBU trials just sends this rush of pleasure and anticipation.

*ROLLS AROUND YET AGAIN*

CANNOT TELL YOU HOW BIG MY SMILE IS RIGHT NOW.

Also, seriously, Ryouma punching Kakashi made me laugh so hard. I'm glad I wasn't the only one.

You are so wonderful. <3

We have not crafted concrete plans for the shape of their relationship yet. For all the characters, we're pretty much writing and plotting evil seeing where it goes. Either way, there will be LOTS of interaction, you can be sure.

Thank you so, so much for your reviews! <333
